Powerbank’s are external portable batteries which is used to charge smartphone / tablets etc.. They are very beneficial when travelling or when no power plugs are available to charge the phone.
There are various criteria’s that one must understand before buying a power bank.
- Based on your usage
- The devices used to charged
- mAh or the capacity of the powerbank
- Type of battery used in powerbank
- Protection mechanism (Against over charging, over heating, etc)
Well the first thing you would need to do is make note of mAH of your phone. It would be written on the battery. If it is not available then you may view the same on the charger.
Ex: If your phone has 1800 mAh bettery you must go for powerbank of atleast 2000 mAh since when the power flows from power bank to phone, the conversation process generates heat and some amount of power is lost. Hence if you have a power bank of 2000 mAh you will be able to charge your phone 1 Full time.
Further if you buy a power bank of 4000 mAh, you should be able to charge your phone two time. Hence first and most important thing is you must note down the mAh of your phone and then based on it finalize on mAh of the power bank.
Okay! mAh stands for Milli Ampere Hour.
Next this is to see what battery type. There are two types of battery available in the market.
- Lithium Polymer
- Lithium Ion
Lithium Polymer are costlier ones and providers more efficient charging then Lithium Ion. Cheaper chargers houses Lithium Ion battery.
Please Note: You must also check the protection circuits which are present in the power bank. Your power bank must be protected from Short Circuits, Over Heating and Over Charging.
If your power bank over heats you must consider unplugging the same as there may be chances that it might explode due to excessive heat.
Next and most important thing is you would need to see the output of the power bank.
- Smartphones will require around 5 Volt and 1 Amps i.e 5V 1000 mA for charging.
- Tabs may require 5.5 V and 2.1 A for charging.
Hence before buying you may inspect your charger for its output voltage and amps so as to finalize on the power bank. There are power banks available which have dual output of both 1 Amps and 2.1 Amps.
Please note: If your phone requires 1 amps input never plug it to 2.1 amps. Though phone may charge soon, in a longer duration it will harm your phone.
Finally you may decide on aesthetics, shape, size etc.
